Streaming Media in Web-publishing

The course focuses on the impact of Internet on the field of Mass Communication. This new channel has the potential of revolutionizing Mass Communication as we have known it. The traditional professions that use mass media as main communication channels to reach their publics, such as journalism, public relations, or advertising, are changing dramatically. Internet weakens the monopoly of large communication corporations, open new ways for sending and receiving information, and facilitates two-way communication processes. The course also discusses the repercussions those radical innovations have on the social and political discourse.

Especially relevant in the current development of Internet is the increasing presence of multimedia contents. This process wipes out the line that traditionally separated print and broadcast journalism. The course explores all the possibilities that streaming audiovisual media can open for this communication channel.

Finally, students familiarize themselves with Web-publishing instruments, learn the design of online strategies, and apply the theoretical knowledge gained in the course in the development of a Web-publishing project.
